MLS Searches for North Charleston Land and Homes For Sale

North Charleston, SC grew out of frustration that residents of this part of unincorporated Charleston County experienced in the 1970′s.  So, in June of 1972, North Charleston became a reality with John Bourne, Jr. as its first Mayor.  The current Mayor, Keith Summey, was elected in 1994 and has helped steer the City into its current status as an international industrial powerhouse.  The addition of Boeing to the City’s industrial base has had a significant impact on the entire Charleston Region, as well as the State.

This Great City played an instrumental role in WWII, and the Riverfront Park is dedicated to the men and women who served in the giant military-industrial complex known commonly as the “Old Navy Base”. This vast, former Naval Complex was the engine that fueled the growth of North Charleston from an unincorporated area of Charleston County into one of the Country’s most competitive cities for industrial and hi-tech growth. It has also been quick to adopt a pro-growth attitude, making it even more attractive for both home buyers and commerce.

In recent years, North Charleston has emerged as the Charleston Region’s industrial powerhouse.  The recent move by Boeing into the area has opened up a new chapter in North Charleston’s rosy future.  With excellent infrastructure, a strategic regional location with quick access to everywhere in the Tri-County area, and a forward-thinking planning department incorporating new modern developments into the City’s growing skyline while  promoting redevelopment of the old, North Charleston has a great deal going for it.

The Riverfront Park at the old Naval Base and Shipyard has some beautiful bronze sculptures, an excellent presentation of the history of the shipyard and base, boardwalks, paved paths, open spaces, a children’s play area, fountains, and much more. This City park is definitely one of the finest in the area and worth visiting. If you happen to be an Army Wives fan, you’ll recognize a few scenes shot in this park!
